Brian Abramovitz

Brian Scott Abramovitz, 58, of Leavenworth, passed away, Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, peacefully at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Thelmen A. and Peggy J. (Wood) Abramovitz.

Brian graduated from Lansing High School in 1974 and then attended Neka Vocational Technical School in Atchison, Kan. where he received certification in Industrial Electricity. He worked at Armed Forces Insurance, Lansing Correctional Facility as a guard, and St. John Hospital as an engineer, where he received employee of the year award. He later started his own business, A ta Z Sandblasting.

On May 29, 1982, he married Susan Barkyoumb in Manhattan, Kan., she survives of the home. He is also survived by his two daughters, Rebecca Sue (Matthew) Benoit of McCracken, Kan. and Laura Kay (Andrew) Yunghans of Kansas City, Kan.; his two grandchildren Brayden Zane Yunghans and Brooke Noelle Benoit; his brother Terry (Jan) Abramovitz; and his nephew Alex Abramovitz. As well as numerous other nieces and nephews in Missouri, Oklahoma, and California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Brian was a charter member of the Lansing Education Foundation Board from 2004 to present. He was president of the Lansing Band Booster Club and worked in the band booster concession stand. He served as president of the Leavenworth Cruisers. He was a member of the KSU Equestrian Executive Board. Brian was a Leavenworth County Fair Board Member and was the voice of the draft horse pull and the demolition derby. He was also a Leavenworth County 4-H horse leader.

Brian loved his girls and was very involved and supportive throughout their high school and college days, attending many track meets and horse shows.

His last two years were filled with the love and laughter of his two grandchildren. The warm summer months were Brian’s favorite! Polishing his ’40, hanging out at car shows and going to cruise nights with his second family The Leavenworth Cruisers was such a joy for him. Brian you will truly be missed.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Lansing Education Foundation or St. Vincent’s Clinic.
