Gerald J. Amos, 93, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, in Leavenworth.

He was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Platte City, Mo., the son o f Jesse and Nancy (Blackstone) Amos.

He served his country during World War II in the Pacific. On July 8. 1946, he married Lillian L Thompson of Dearborn, Mo.

Gerald started working as an auto mechanic at Boling Motor Co., in Leavenworth and worked until retirement for Rusty Eck Ford. After retirement he enjoyed several years of working on the farms in Missouri with his close friend. In his earlier years his passion was hunting and fishing. His favorite thing to do in the last few years was spend time with his family and tell stories from his years growing up in Missouri.

He is survived by his daughters, Marlene Filley of Leavenworth and Judy Norman of Kansas City, Mo.; his grandchildren, Shelly Parks, Michael McCoy, Timothy Honey and Makala Doran; his great-grandchildren, Tabetha, Caleb, Brianna, Caeley, Caiden, Ashley, Adam, Jacob and Matthew; and two great-great-grandchildren, Garrett and Chloe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian on June 10, 1991. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry L. Amos; brother, Dothard Amos; and a grandson, Tony Martin.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
