Ursula Helene Armstrong

Ursula Helene Armstrong, 92, a proud German WWII veteran, marched peacefully into heaven on the day honoring those who served, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, in Shawnee, Kan. She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Spremberg, Germany, as an only child to Irwin and Emma (Bergan) Schnelle.

Her war experiences while serving in the German Navy, and her passion for war history were incredible, and as many can attest, she loved sharing her stories.

She later married an American GI and came to the United States in 1963. In her thick German accent, she proudly proclaimed her American citizenship received in 1964. Ursula was a long-time resident of Chapman, Kan. and moved to Lansing, Kan. in 2007 to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Armstrong and her parents.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving daughter, Hellen Polizzi; two grandchildren, Kristen Polizzi and Amber (Polizzi) Downing & husband Victor; and two great grandsons, Trey and Carter.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Fort Riley Post Cemetery.
