Huey Cline Auvil

Ret. U.S. Army SGM. Huey Cline Auvil, 76, of Leavenworth, passed away peacefully Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Community Living Center at the Leavenworth Veterans Administration, with his daughter by his side. Huey was born July 26, 1936, in Leadmine, W.Va., the fifth child of Troy W. and Rena Y. (James) Auvil.

He graduated from Aurora High School and joined the military. He loved the military and made it his life for over 31 years. On Huey’s second tour in Vietnam, he was a member of the 62nd Aviation Company (Royal Coachman). In the last few years he was able to attend two of their reunions. He loved this group of soldiers and was proud to be part of them. Following retirement from the military he worked at the Leavenworth VA for 16 years. He was a charter member of the Henry Leavenworth Chapter of SAR; a lifetime member of the American Legion; lifetime member of the VFW; and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

On Aug. 22, 1964, he married the love of his life, Gladysanne Stein, at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1999. He was also preceded in death, by his parents, and three brothers, Troy, Norman and Dorian.

Huey is survived by his children, Andrea Michele (Steve) Jones of Leavenworth and Huey Jason Stein (Melissa) Auvil of Niles, Mich.; his grandchildren, Huey Bennett and Julianne; his siblings, Loeda, Arvella, Dorothy (Clayton), Selma (Ralph), Jeckie (Darell), Alton (Patty), Ken and James (Penny); numerous nieces and nephews; and five fur grand-puppies, especially “Charlie”.

Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at Saint Joseph Church, with Rev. David McEvoy, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Gladysanne Stein-Auvil Memorial Scholarship at Immaculata High School.
