Luther "David" Barnett

Luther “David” Barnett, 79, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born on Jan. 26, 1936, in Yell County, Ark., the son of Silas and Callie (Owens) Barnett.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Barnett; three sons, David, Michael and Christopher; a brother, Ronald Barnett; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; his beloved great-grandson, Jonah Wheeler; and four nephews.

David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leavenworth. He was also a amateur HAM radio operator working under the call sign WB0RNP.

He was an avid Guitar player in the styling's of Chet Atkins and enjoyed playing and recording music with his brothers. David was an electronics engineer who worked in the communications industry most of his adult life and retired from civil service on Ft. Leavenworth.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
