Edwin Kenneth Bleam

Edwin Kenneth Bleam, 87, of Leavenworth, died, Monday, June 13, 2016, at Garden Terrace at Overland Park. He was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Leavenworth, Kan., the son of Dewey and Esther (Mischler) Bleam.

On Dec.18, 1949, he married Ruth J. Buchannan in Fairmount, Kan. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ruth Ann Bleam-Guise; and two brothers, Marvin Bleam and Wilbert Bleam.

Edwin is survived by two sons, Edwin K. (Cheryl D.) Bleam Jr. of Leavenworth and Howard D. (Connie G.) Bleam of Tonganoxie; a daughter, Carolyn M. (Keith) Hollingshead of Basehor; three brothers, Donald Bleam, William “Bill” Bleam and John Bleam; two sisters, Esther Bremer and Rachel Sears; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was a lifetime farmer. Edwin was the first to own and sell Vermeer equipment in the state of Kansas. He was a member of the Eastern Star and the Victory Assembly Church in Bonner Springs. He was also a lifelong member of the Masonic Society. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 33rd degree Scottish Rite.

Edwin served the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1960. He retired from General Motors in 1981.

Visitation beginning with the Masonic Service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hubbel Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
