Joseph Brinkley

Joseph Brinkley, 58, of Lansing, flew on wings of angels to his heavenly home, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at home with his family. He was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Littleton, N.C., the son of Anjoylus and Lucille (Brown) Brinkley.

He joined the Air Force in 1973 at the age of 17. He proudly served his country for 20 years. Joseph served in many countries; the Philippines, England, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Italy and South Korea. While serving in Korea he had the opportunity to enter North Korea with a security team.

Joseph was stationed in California where he married his last love, Patricia Brown on April 20, 1989. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Anjoylus Brinkley and Celestine Brinkley of the home, Amber Brinkley of Virginia and Sterling Brinkley of Texas; siblings, David, Ruby, and Anjoylus (Maggie) all of North Carolina; one grandson he was extremely proud of, Joseph Isiah Elom Brinkley; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

After retiring from the Air Force, Joe and his family settled in Leavenworth, Kan., where he held several jobs. He worked at the battery factory, Hallmark Cards, Copart and Aldi’s.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Javaris Brinkley.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
