Elizabeth "Betty" Cord

Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Cord, 86, of Leavenworth, died, Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Easton Country Care. She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Henry and Victoria (Jamison) Wiehe. .

Betty is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great and great-great nephews.

On May 23, 1964, Betty married Julius Cord. They were the first couple to get married in the New Cathedral. He preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Skahan.

Betty worked in the Missouri Valley Steel office. She moved to Michigan in the 1960’s where she worked at Knapp’s Department Store until they closed. She was an accounts receivable clerk for the comptroller’s office at Michigan State University. She retired from MSU in 1993.

She was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church in Okemos, Mich.

Betty enjoyed knitting, going out to eat, playing cards, hitting the casinos and drinking coffee. She lived her life for her family.

Visitation beginning with the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. David McEvoy, O.Carm., as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society or Toys for Tots.
