Floyd V. Davis

Floyd V. Davis , 89, of Leavenworth, passed away in his sleep on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at his home in Leavenworth. Floyd was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Lowemont, Kan., to Oney and Victoria A. (Patterson) Davis.

On June 20, 1951, Floyd married the former Margaret Marie Tolbert. They had seven children.

Floyd was employed by the federal government for over 33 years and retired from the Dwight D Eisenhower VAMC. in January 1986. Floyd loved carpentry and gardening. In his spare time, he worked as a handyman and provided lawn care services for 50 + years and only stopped because of illness. He also enjoyed fishing when he decided to take a break. He enjoyed volunteering and greeting folks with good simple conversation at The Leavenworth Mission Food Pantry. Floyd was always committed to helping friends and family with carpentry projects, auto repairs and whatever else they needed from him. He was quiet man, a loving husband, a role model father, and a caring friend to many. He was a member C.B. Temple Church in Tonganoxie, Kan.

Survivors include five daughters, Wilma (Don) Howard, Debra Groomes, Gloria Taylor, Christine (Willie) Davis-Meeks, Iris (David) Arnold; a son, Floyd Davis Jr.; two sisters, Thelma Davis and Norma Jean Brown; and a brother, Alonzo Davis. He was blessed to live and see a host of generations of grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Theresa Davis, seven brothers and three sisters.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Cross Roads Hospice, Mr. Jerry Colston, Ms. Donna Standard, Ms. Kimberly Sanford for their loving care and support to their father.

Visitation will be from 11 to 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Leavenworth Mission Food Pantry. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held at 1:30 at the SDA multipurpose building at 601 Michigan Ave., Leavenworth, Kan.
