James Dewberry

James Earl Dewberry, 83, formerly of Leavenworth, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2016, in Lansing. He was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Duncanville, Texas the son of John Marvin and Helen Lee (Allen) Dewberry.

After high school, Jim served in the US Airforce for four years and was a veteran of the Korean War. While serving in the Airforce, he married Arlene Brzozowski in Leavenworth. After 35 years of marriage they divorced. She survives. After discharge from the Airforce, James went to work at Fort Leavenworth and worked in the telecommunications division. He retired in 1987.

On April 16, 1998, he married Janet C. (Poe) Wacker in Leavenworth. She survives of the home in Kuna, Idaho. He is also survived by his children, Daniel Dewberry, Rebecca (Bruce) Wiley, James M. (Sandra L.) Dewberry and Roxanne (Chris) Mason, all of the Leavenworth area; his step-children, Kenneth (Annie) Wacker of Kansas City, Kan. and Louann (Bart) George of Kuna, Idaho; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brothers, Wilbur (Lorna) Dewberry, Jimmy (Larue) Dewberry and Michael (Waunice) Dewberry; and his companion “Dollie”.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Marvin Dewberry and Ola Nell Stoker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church. Burial with Airforce honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
