Violet Donovan

Violet C. Donovan, 96, of Leavenworth, passed away, Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, in the care of hospice. She was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Woodstock, Va.

Violet married Edward H. Lavery, Jr., and of that marriage was born two sons, Jim and Hank Lavery. They later divorced and Violet married William Donovan.

Violet’s career began at the Leavenworth U.S. Penitentiary as the Secretary to the Assistant Warden. She later transferred to the federal correctional facility in Miami, Fla., where she and William lived in Homestead, Fla., until William’s death in 1987. She retired from the federal system in the 1980’s and moved back to Leavenworth.

Violet enjoyed gardening, quilting and being active in church up until she was 90 years old.

She is survived by her two sons, Jim Lavery of Lansing, Kan. and Hank Lavery of Leavenworth; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Arrangements in care of R. L. Leintz Funeral Home.
