Diane Kay Dougherty

Diane Kay Dougherty, 49, of Lansing, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at her home with her family and friends at her side after a two year courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 2, 1961, in Seattle, Wash., the daughter of Lloyd A. and Lenora “Len” (Housman) Hawkins.

On Nov. 10, 1983, she joined the U.S. Army and served her country for 28 years both active duty and with the National Guard. Some of her duty stations were Fort Bliss, Fort Leavenworth and Germany.

She is survived by a son, Brandon Lee Dougherty of the home; her mother, Lenora “Len” and husband, George Hoss; two siblings, Mark (JoDee) Hawkins and Sherry (Jon) Aufdenkamp; and her extended family and very good friends.

Diane was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Larry Hawkins.

She was a member of Body of Christ Outreach Ministries. Diane will be remembered as a devoted mother, a very good friend and an inspiration to others.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Body of Christ Outreach Ministries or the American Cancer Society.
