Odis "Odie" Emler

Odie Emler, 87, of Leavenworth died, Sunday June 19, 2016, in Arizona. He was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Magic City, Texas, the son of Arlie “Tex” and Ardith (Phillips) Emler.

He was a Korean War Veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 56. Odie was retired from Missouri Valley Steel where he was a welder.

In 1946, Odie married Rose Overfield in Leavenworth. From this marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Lanza and husband, Jaime, and Sandra Loar.

He married Elsie “Lee” Schimtz in 1966. From this marriage, Odie is survived by three step-daughters, Marie Hewitt of Leavenworth, Winifred Bard of Arkansas and Georgia Griffee and husband, Bob of Colorado. Odie is also survived by a brother, Claude Emler; five sisters, Nona Overfield, Wanda Davis, Lois Robertson, Phyllis Vance and Peggy Hitchcock; fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife, Elsie Emler.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
