Raymond A. Forge

Raymond A. Forge, 68, died, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born May 31, 1945, the son of Leo F. and Irene (Culp) Forge.

On Aug. 3, 1968, he married Virginia Nichols. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Ray was drafted from the National Guard into the U.S. Army in May of 1968. He served as a tank driver in the Vietnam War. Upon returning he worked as a mechanic for Collard Chevrolet and in the maintenance department for Hallmark cards for 21 years. He also worked in maintenance at Northeast Kansas Technical College.

In his later years, Ray enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and his dog, Sunshine.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Nancy Forge of Leavenworth and Shawna (Keith) Herd of Pontiac Missouri; two grandchildren, Donnie Herd and Elizabeth Herd; a sister, Margaret ( Joe) Kowalewski of Clinton, Tenn.; and two brothers, Leo Forge and Walter Forge of Leavenworth.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
