Eva H. Fye

Eva Hildegard Helmling Fye of Lansing Kan., passed from this life to eternal life on Dec. 29, 2012. Eva was born in Reisen, Germany in 1926 to parents, Franz and Katerina Helmling. She married Gunter Kutzner in 1943. Gunter was killed in World War II. In 1947, she married Robert Phillips Fye (U.S. Army) and came to the United States.

Eva was a woman of many talents, arriving in the United States, she worked as a seamstress in Maryland, Virginia, Iowa and Texas. Eva also operated her own sewing businesses while living in Heidelberg, Germany and DeRidder, La. She and Robert also operated dog kennels in DeRidder, La and Easton, Kan. In the late 1940s, Eva began a career with the J.C. Penney Company where she was employed off and on for over a span of forty years. Eva retired from J.C. Penney Co. in 1992.

A graduate of St. Mary University, Leavenworth. Eva was an accomplished artist. Her collection includes still life works, many of which hang in the homes of her children. Eva was both a quilter and a weaver. Eva was gifted with a natural talent to make and do anything with her hands. For many years, she was an active member of the Leavenworth County Artists Association. Eva’s greatest joy and hobby was working outdoors in her many gardens or in her yard.

Eva was a devoted mother! She is survived by five children, Falko Kutzner Fye (Caroline), Samuel Fye (Janet), Jay Fye, Kim Fye Didde (Dale), Roberta Fye Etzel (James); eight grandchildren, Linda Fye, Erica and Erin Fye, Blasé, Zachary and Eva-Marie Etzel, Stephen and Brooke Didde; and one great grandchild, Landon Long (Erica Fye Long and James Long); and one of her three sisters, Henrietta Helmling.

Preceded in this life by Gunter Kutzner, Robert Phillips Fye, Catherine Rebecca and Nancy Roberta Fye (twin daughters), Sue Fye (daughter-in-law), her parents: Franz and Katerina Helmling, Horst Helmling (brother), and Isolde Helmling (sister).

A funeral service was held on Jan. 2, 2013 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Interment will be at Arlington National Ceremony where she will lie in rest with her husband Robert and her two twin daughters: Nancy Roberta and Catherine Rebecca Fye.
