Jay Alan Fye

Jay Alan Fye, 62, of Lansing, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at Lansing Care and Rehab. He was born May 21, 1956, in Bremerhaven, Germany, to Robert and Eva Fye.

Jay moved to Easton, Kan., in 1969. He lived in the Easton, Leavenworth and Lansing areas the remainder of his life. He attended Easton Elementary School, Pleasant Ridge High School, where he was the football manager and was a graduate of Northeast Kansas Area Vo-Tech School in Atchison, Kan.

Jay resided at Lansing Care and Rehab Center from 2012 to 2018.

Jay held jobs at the Fort Leavenworth Officers Club, Billeting and the Bowling Alley. He also worked in Leavenworth at McDonalds and the Leavenworth Times Newspaper. All his adult life, Jay was involved in the Special Olympics Program. He also participated in activities through Riverside Resources.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Leavenworth where he was an acolyte and played in their Bell Choir. Later in his life Jay joined the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lansing. Jay’s love of God saw no boundaries; he loved God with the heart of a little child.

Jay is survived by four siblings, Falko Fye, Sam Fye, Kim Fye Didde and Roberta Fye Etzel; and numerous nieces and nephews. His namesake, Jason Alan Didde was born December 27, 2018.

The family wishes to thank all in the Leavenworth/Lansing area who cared for Jay, loved him as a friend, and accepted him for the good person he was.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at the St. Francis de Sales Church with Rev. William McEvoy as celebrant. Burial will be at Arlington National at a later date where he will be laid to rest with his parents and his twin sisters, Nancy and Catherine. If desired, donations can be made in Jay’s name to the Special Olympics Kansas Chapter.
