Robert Eugene Gillette

Robert Eugene Gillette, 89, of Galesburg, Ill., passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019.

Robert was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Halbert and Vinada Gillette. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948 and joined the Navy. He married Rose Edna Boyd in 1951.

He leaves as his legacy four children: Andrea Frymire (Randy), Anita Scheer, Robert M. Gillette (Roberta), Rose Marie Gillette. He also leaves to cherish his memory three siblings, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Chief Petty Officer Gillette served his country as an Aviation Electronics Technician for the United States Navy for 20 years. After moving to Leavenworth, Kan., in 1996 he served over 7500 hours as a volunteer at the Department of Veterans Affairs and was affectionately known as “Mr. Coffee.”

No services are planned. The family requests donations be made to the Volunteer Services at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
