Mary C. Gillom

Mary Catherine Gillom, 69, of Leavenworth, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014. She was born April 29, 1945, in Leavenworth.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth where she attended the parochial schools and graduated from Immaculata High School. Mary was married to Willie on March 9, 1968.

She worked for the Veteran’s Administration in food and service and retired after 40 years before starting her second career as a caregiver at “Care Giving Because We Care”.

Mary was a former member of Independent Baptist church and attended Kehilath Israel Synagogue in Overland Park, Kan.

Mary was a member of the Leavenworth Red Hat Woman’s Society and loved to just “hang with the girls”. She was avid scrap booker, loved watching I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith reruns, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an active member in the community and caregiver to many. Mary was a woman that always began and ended each day with a grateful heart.

Mary is survived by her husband, Willie; two children, Clinton (Cristina) Gillom and Ebony (Brandan) Shaffer; three grandchildren, Kiara, Zakaiyah, and Nicholas. Mary is also survived by her brothers, William (Lillian) Anderson, Lawrence Anderson, and Jerry Anderson; one sister, Belva June Horton; her brother-in-law Oliver (Iceola) Gillom and sister-in-laws Doris Ramos and Delores (Lonnie) Davis, and many loving relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dana and Viola Anderson and her brothers Dana Ellsworth and Joseph.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. after the viewing at the funeral home. Rabbi Stuart Davis will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Mount Muncie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association.
