Elkine Hailey

Elkine Hailey, 42, of Fort Leavenworth passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at her home. She was born April 20, 1972, to Fortune and Lavanie Metellus in Port de Paix, Haiti. She was the second of five children raised in a very close and God-centered family.

Elkine received Christ Jesus at a tender age and enjoyed life and the fullness of her faith. Kiki, as she is affectionately known to her loved ones, graduated from North Miami Senior High School in 1991. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Florida before deciding to serve the United States of America and enlisted in the Army in 1993.

Elkine received an ROTC scholarship and continued her undergraduate education at New Mexico State University majoring in English and Literature. Upon completion of her degree and commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1999, she earned the rank of Captain and served honorable tours of duty at Fort Hood, Texas, Korea, and participated in Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. She and her husband, Jermaine, were blessed with three children, Noelle (2007), Selah (2009) and Joseph (2011). In later years, Elkine continued her education and pursued her teacher’s certification in early child educational development in both California and Georgia.

Our beloved Elkine was an extremely loving, caring, immensely intelligent, talented, committed, determined, and generous family-oriented woman of faith and virtue. It is the combination of these qualities that endeared her to so many loved ones and friends. Her incredible strength, courage, and steadfast belief in Jesus Christ in the mist of the fight of her life, is truly an inspiration to all.
