Donald Ray Hampton Jr.

He graduated from Piper High School May 20, 1975.

Don joined the U.S. Army in August 1976. He graduated from basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He also graduated Advance Individual Training as Military Police in Fort McClellan.

On May 29, 1984, he married Unsun “Mindy” Kang. She survives at the home. He is also survived by two sons, Joel (Jeana) Chinn and Donnie R. (Emily) Hampton III; a daughter, Kimberly (Charles) Triplett; four grandchildren, Wyatt Danger Triplett, Troy Ace Triplett, Olivia Chinn and Shawn Eads; three sisters, Donna Jean Hampton, Connie Minton and Melinda McGregor; and three brothers, Gary Hampton, Dwaine Hampton and Daniel Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don enjoyed music, fast cars and baseball. He loved spending time with his family.

He was a man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. A giver to many and never asked for anything in return. His only wish in life was to love God, his family and help others whenever he could. He showed courage and inspired others while fighting his battle with cancer. He gave the ultimate gift by being a part of a national lung cancer trial. He hoped that this drug would help others down the road. He was only one of fifty-seven patients and had great success with it so that others will too. Three years and four months later he was ready to go home after seeing that his wife and kids were taken care of.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A private burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House.
