Patricia Hutchinson

Patricia Eureka Hutchinson, 60 of Leavenworth passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. She was born in Ancon (former U.S. Canal Zone), Republic of Panama on Sept. 5, 1953. She was the first of three children of Doris Eureka Regist and the late Ernel Patrick Alexander Regist.

Patricia graduated with honors from Rainbow City High School(former Canal Zone) in 1972. She then graduated from Canal Zone Junior College with an Associate of Behavioral Science Degree. She continued her education at Florida State University majoring in Social Justice. Patricia proved to be exceptionally talented and skilled in leadership, counseling, organizing and planning in her professional life that she applied it in her church ministry and even among her family, relatives and friends. Her brothers, Antonio (Tony) Regist a Episcopal priest/chaplain and Fermin Regist a transportation administrator was her first followers from childhood as she evangelize them for the Lord ministry. She started singing from childhood in church joining the adult church choir at 13 years old and never stop singing for the Lord. This filled her with great joy.

Armed with her solid training, devotion and qualities she met the love of her life Ronald E. Hutchinson Sr. that they married shortly after and moved to the United States in 1979 with Ronald Sr. and her newly born baby , Ronald Jr. Patricia a cradle Episcopalian felt welcome as she visited for the first time with Ronald Sr. Bethel A.M.E. Church. It was not hard for her to make the transition from Absalom Jones ministry to Richard Allen ministry knowing that they both shared common Christian values. Patricia demanded her space in the Lord’s Ministry at Bethel by joining the choir and later becoming the church choir director. Then she became a trustee and later serving for numerous years was honored as trustee emeritus. Patricia was a member of the Women‘s Missionary Society and later was awarded the Cleo B. Love Hall of Recognition. She initiated the Birthday Moments Celebrations and directed it for many years.

Patricia began working shortly after the birth of her second son John Patrick. for Leavenworth Public School. She retired after many years of working, but continued to work for the Lord. She enjoyed reading, especially religious’ literature, sewing , crochet, baking her favorite meat pie, collection of sunflower, and cooking Panamanian dishes.

Patricia raised her two sons , Ronald Jr. a recent Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran and John Patrick an Activity Specialist for Corrections. She also raised for short while her nephews Antonio Regist Jr. and Patrick Alexander Regist. She instill in them the need to serve the Lord and the community. Her legacy continues through the lives off her sons, her daughter in law, Shannon, and her granddaughter, Catelyn Joy Patricia who strive to emulate her fearless determination to serve the Lord.

Patricia is survived by her loving and devoted husband Ronald Sr.; her mother, Doris Eureka Regist; her brothers, The Rev. Antonio Regist and Fermin Regist; her sister, Barbara Chandler; sons, Ronald Jr. and John Patrick; her daughter in law Shannon; her granddaughter, Catelyn Joy Patricia; her aunt, Olga Sawyers; her uncle, Eduardo Roach; her nieces, Anisha Chandler, Annette Regist, Ashley Regist and Ginelly Regist; her nephews, Antonio Regist Jr., Patrick Alexander Regist, Fermin Regist Jr., Rodney Chandler and Michael Alexander Regist; her mother in law, Naomi; father in law John Sr.; her sisters in law, Sharon Thompson and Gina; her brothers in law, John Jr. and Rolando Chandler; a host of cousins including Carmen Bourne, Nelia Blaizes and Evelyn Haywood; relatives, church family and friends including high school classmates Vern and Perla Best.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at noon Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Bethel AME Church. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
