Deborah Rose Janas

Deborah Rose Janas, 55, of Leavenworth, lost her courageous 5-year struggle with cancer, Friday, March 3, 2017. Debbie was surrounded by her loving family during her last days. Her family and friends will miss her smile, her quick wit, and her long text messages filled with emojis. Debbie was a beloved daughter, loving mother, devoted sister and aunt, friend and special BFF. She had a deep love for her family. She also loved her dogs and she missed them every day during her treatments and convalescence.

Debbie was born on January 19, 1962, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Debbie and her military family moved several times over the years, but Debbie has called Leavenworth her home since 1982. Debbie attended Leavenworth High School and Immaculata High School. She graduated from Robert G. Cole High School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Debbie also received Early Childhood Studies Certification from San Antonio College and Offset Printing Certification from Salina Area Technical College. During her career, Debbie was employed at Fort Leavenworth Lodging, the Fort Leavenworth School District, the University of Saint Mary Ancilla Daycare Center, and Collateral Services Inc., from which she retired.

Debbie leaves behind her mother, Rosemary Janas; her daughter, Briana Janas; her family – Mike Janas, Cathy Ford , Margie Pike, Laura Gasbarre, Joann Bender and their families.

During her last days, Debbie was comforted by her family, friends, and the wonderful caregivers at St. Luke’s Hospice House.

Debbie’s life ended too soon. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but she is reunited with her father, Ed Janas, who passed away in 2003. They will be watching over the family until they are all reunited.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the KU Endowment, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard, Mail Stop 3012, Kansas City, KS 66160, to benefit clinical trials and research – focused on the work of Drs.
