Richard January

Richard January, 92, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

Richard Martin January was born April 6, 1920, in Leavenworth County to Albert January and Cassie (Mabin) January. He was raised with his two sisters, Roberta Reese and Viola Beadles both have preceded him in death. Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. January married Dorothy Lina and they were married for over 50 years before she died 10 years ago.

Richard worked for Geiger Ready Mix Company as a concrete truck driver, until he retired after 38 years of service. He also owned and operated a truck hauling business for over 40 years until his health stopped him from driving. He also worked at the Leavenworth Times for over 10 years.

Richard and Dorothy had nine children, Carol King of Kansas City, Kan., Viola Sprague and husband, Robert of Quincy, Ill., Richard F. January who has preceded him in death, Marva White and husband, Robert of Tacoma, Wash., Yvonne Hall, and husband Norman of the home, Yvette Parker and husband William of Wichita, Kan., Frederick Wayne January of Leavenworth, Ramona Rogers and husband Everett of McKinney, Texas and Regina Wilson and husband George of Wichita, Kan. He had an adopted daughter, Delia Parks of Orlando, Fla. Mr. January has many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, countless nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the Second Christian Church in Atchison, Kan. Richard loved life, loved to laugh and loved God.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will being at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
