Robert Jessie Jefferson, Jr.

Robert Jessie Jefferson, Jr., 58, Leavenworth, Kan, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Providence Medical Center. He had been sick for a short time and passed surrounded by his family.

Bob was born May 18, 1956, in Newport News, Va., to Robert and Josephine Jefferson. Bob's father preceded him in death. His mother married, Joe Donaldson and the family moved to Tennessee where Bob lived until graduating from Flintville High School and joining the United States Army.

Bob married Annette Bates in 1975. Together they traveled to many places while Bob served his country, their favorite being Naples, Italy. Bob was a strong protector of his family and had many hobbies and interests. He was teaching himself to play the guitar and most recently had enjoyed canning vegetables from his garden. Bob also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, going to the firing range, traveling and reading.

Bob and Annette lived in Leavenworth, Kan., when Bob received an honorable discharge from the Army. He began working at YRC Freight in 1988 as a computer/network operator until his passing. Bob also graduated from Kansas City Kansas Community College while working.

Bob is survived by his wife, Annette and grandson, Austin, of the home and two children, Robert J Jefferson, III and Chrissy Cosgrove. Bob was loving called "Big Daddy" by all the grandchildren, Aleeyah, Dawson, Matthew, Kylea, and Jayace Jefferson, Paislea and McKenna Murphy, Amaya Boyd, Shyloh and Anthony Cosgrove, and great grandchild Elijah McCord. Other survivors are his parents, Joe and Josehpine Donaldson, brothers Steve (Brenda) Jefferson and Mike (Michelle) Donaldson, sisters Jean (Jerry) Benson, Robin Phelps, and Michele (Darin) Rutledge, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his best friend, co-worker, and neighbor, Mike McCormick.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Leavenworth Church of Christ located at 3911 S. 10th Ave on August 23, 2014, from 10am -noon. There will also be a memorial service on Aug. 30, 2014, in Fayetteville, Tenn., at the West Fayetteville Church of Christ located at 24 Boonshill Rd., visitation at 10am with services at 11am. Bob was cremated, so there will not be a burial at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations/memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
