Clarence Johnson Jr.

Clarence “Mannie” Johnson Jr., 57, of Leavenworth, passed away, Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. He was born April 26, 1960, in Castleberry, Ala., to the union of Clarence and Annie M. (Jernigan) Johnson Sr.

He attended St. Louis Public Schools where he graduated from Halter Senior High School in 1978. Clarence confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army and served two terms.

Clarence leaves behind to cherish his memories his father, Clarence Johnson Sr.; his wife by common law, Almetrice Jackson-Goodwin; two children, Franklin S. Goodwin and Tylena Goodwin; two grandchildren, Taije’lah R. Jackson and Da ‘Von C. Jackson; two sisters, Jannie (Kevin) Trice and Lucertia Fentress; two nephews, Bryant Johnson and Nicholas Trice; two nieces, Erica Johnson-Boykin and Shannon Montgomery; his “favorite” aunt Patricia Harris; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Clarence was known for his big smile and his willingness to help anyone. He had a charismatic personality. He loved his family and friends dearly. He always said that Almetrice, his children, grandchildren and family were the loves of his life.

Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
