Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Stanley Carroll Johnson, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kan.

Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Stanley Carroll Johnson

Stan was born Sept. 6, 1931, in West Point, Neb., the son of Paul and Ethel Johnson. At an early age he and his parents moved to Gregory, S. D. due to business.

In 1955 he graduated from the University of Missouri with BS in Business. Stan was then commissioned as a second lieutenant and served his first duty assignment at a Nike Hercules site in Rouge Park, Detroit, Mich. His duty assignments include, Ft. Sill, Okla., Ft. Bliss, Texas, McCord AFB, Tacoma, Wash., Ft. Lewis, Wash., Inchon, Korea, Buamholder, West Germany, Heidelberg, West Germany and a one year tour in Vietnam. He received his MBA from Northwest Missouri State University upon his retirement from the Army in July, 1976. He subsequently managed the Collard R.V. Center in Lansing, for 16 years and then became a sales person for Wilcox R.V. in Topeka, Kan.

On Dec. 26, 1956, Stan married JoAnn Williams in Gravois Mills, Mo. She survives at their home in Leavenworth. They were the proud parents of two children, Steven M. Johnson and Carol A. Johnson. Steve and his wife Valerie and two children Katie and Eric live in Great Bend, Kan. and Carol Johnson lives in Lenexa, Kan. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Johnson (Rita) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be celebrated at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011. Military honors and inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Leavenworth, KS.
