Barbara Ann Jones

Barbara Ann Jones, 67, formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Barbara attended Holy Epiphany and St. Joseph grade schools and graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School. She matriculated at Emporia State University, received her undergraduate degree from Lincoln University, and received two advance degrees: A Masters of Education in Library Science and a Masters as an Educational Media Specialist. Barbara retired after 35 years as a librarian from Westport High School. Upon retirement, Westport named the school's library after Barbara for her steadfast commitment and service to the school and community.

Barbara was married to Percy Jones and is survived by a devoted son, Kemani Lee Jones of Kansas City, Mo. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Jones (Linda); her sister, Joyce Williams; nephews, Guyon Grant (wife Amy, and children Patrick, Isaiah, Guy, and Elise), Joseph Jones and Marcus Jones (daughter Aaliyah); nieces, Patrice Fulcher (husband Richard, and children Marley and Trinity), Victoria Lynch (Children Tiara and Amya); and leaves behind a host of special cousins and friends, Glenda Davis (husband Bruce, and children Troy and Austin), Bernard Jones, Bernadette Jones, the McClanahan Family, Janice Williams and family, Carolyn Jones, Leota Marks and family, Lala Marie Miller-Gilkey, Bridgette Gilkey, Tom Williams, and numerous others.

Throughout her life, Barbara was a member of several organizations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., American Library Association, and The Women's Bible Study Group of Lenexa Christian Church. She was also a very talented actress, and preformed with the Kansas City Contemporary Players and Stage Crafters of Jefferson City, Missouri and AIM (Art In Motion) in Leavenworth.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Leroy Jones and Ernestine Fearn Jones; grandparents, Ernest and Loma Fearn, and Harriette and Allie Jones; aunts Sister Mary Benigna Jones, Sister Mary Josepha Jones (Holy Family), and Julia Robinson; and niece Kelsie Jones.

Barbara's life was truly inspirational. Her unconditional love, friendship, and service will be missed by all.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 pm, followed by a Sorority memorial commencing at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth, KS 66048. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at Sacred Heart Church, 1401 2nd Ave., Leavenworth, KS 66048. Internment will follow Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1011 North Desoto Rd.
