Paul John Kalowski

Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Paul John Kalowski, 77, of Leavenworth, Kan., went to be with the Lord, Jan. 1, 2019. He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Ted and Pauline (Stelmachowski) Kalowski.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara (Raven) Kalowski; a son, Paul John Jr. and wife, JoAnn of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Patricia Jean of Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Alice of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Joseph and wife, Donna of Pleasanton, Calif.; two nephews and three nieces.

Paul graduated from St. Patrick High School in Chicago, IL in1959. As an active member of the Boy Scouts he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ret. Lt. Col. Kalowski served honorably in the United States Army from 1963 to 1988 in many capacities including two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Greece as a Foreign Area Officer. He earned numerous awards including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (with 4 device), Army Commendation Medal (with OLC), Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 7 Stars), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Ribbon (with 4 Device), Combat Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Paratrooper Badge and Graduate of Hellenic Army War College (Greece). He worked with Northrup-Grumman from January 1989 until his retirement on December 2018.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 9, 2019, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent's Clinic in Leavenworth in his name.
