Willis W. “Bill” Klingele

Willis W. “Bill” Klingele, 67, of Leavenworth, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at this home. He was born June 25, 1944, in Leavenworth, the son of Willis S. and Nella E. (Gnolfo) Klingele.

After graduation from high school in 1962, Bill joined the U.S. Navy. On Feb. 2, 1968, he married the love of his life, Ivy Porter in Leavenworth. She survives at the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Stacey (Jim) and Julianne (Jamie); and four grandchildren, Cody, Cole, Makenzi and Devin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Stephanie.

Bill worked for the Leavenworth Fire Department from 1966 to 1969. He medically retired from the Leavenworth Police Department after working for the city for 19 years. He later worked security at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant until it closed. He obtained a private investigators license and did investigation work for several local attorneys. Bill also worked security at Leavenworth High School.

He was a member of the VFW, DAV and was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #19. His hobbies were fishing, camping and having his grandkids around him. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with all of his high school classmates over the internet.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with police honors will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sunflower Hospice or the American Heart Association.
