Mary A. Larkin

Mary Agnes Larkin, 88, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, in Avon, Ind. She was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Phillip and Agnes (Shudrowitz) Gonterwitz.

On Sept. 14, 1951, she married Robert Andrew Larkin in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1983. She was also preceded in death by all eight of her siblings.

Mary is survived by her children, Robert P. (Gail) Larkin of Moline, Ill., Ronald W. (Amy) Larkin of Avon, Ind., Janet M. Larkin of Seattle, Wash., Timothy M. Larkin of Denver, Colo., and Linda Larkin-Wonn of New Orleans, La.; her grandchildren, Rimsey A. Larkin of Chicago, Ill and Abbey E. (Derek) Wheeler of Byron, Ill.; great-grand daughter, Lilley Wheeler; sister-in-law, Florence Larkin; and many nieces and nephews on Gonterwitz and Larkin sides of her family.

Mary was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company in her earlier years. She was a loving mother and housewife from 1953 to 1983 and a retail sales representative for Meis and Elder-Beerman department store in Terre Haute Ind., from 1980 to 1998. Mary will always be remembered for her quick wit, wry sense of humor and her outgoing personality. She leaves behind many good friends at The Hearth at Prestwick in Avon, Ind., Terre Haute, Ind., and in Leavenworth Kan.

Visitation beginning with praying the rosary will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Casimir Church with Rev. Phillip Winkelbauer as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
