John Lewis

John Marvin Lewis, 87, of Sunrise Beach, Mo., formally of Leavenworth, departed this life, Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015. He was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Henry County, Mo., near Clinton, Mo., the son of Willie Harvey and Mildred (Parks) Lewis.

On May 25, 1947, John married the love of his life, Bertha A. “Boots” Steuernagel in Leavenworth, Kan. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Leroy Lewis and Charles Lewis; and two sisters, Nellie Headrick and Dorothy Hetherington.

John is survived by his loving children, Janie A. (Daniel) Sample, Jean M. (Kevin Harris) Lewis and John R. (Patricia) Lewis all of Leavenworth; a granddaughter, Steffanie L. (Michael) Honaker; three great-grandchildren, Galen A. Honaker, Levi N. Honaker and Zane E. Honaker; and six siblings, Anna Lee James, Ethel Lewis, Martha Minks, Helen Hatfield, Billie Dean Lewis and Edgar Lee Lewis.

He retired from Gould National Battery in Leavenworth. John was a carpenter and a general contractor for seventeen homes in the Leavenworth area.

After retirement he and his wife moved to Lake of the Ozarks where he became an avid fisherman.

John loved gardening, fishing, coaching baseball and hunting with his family.

He was loved by all his friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lake Ozark Regional Hospital (54 Hospital Drive, Osage Beach, Mo., 65065)
