Errol Logue

Errol Lee Logue, 77, of Leavenworth passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. Errol was born March 9, 1941, in Glendale Calif., the son of Paul Arthur and Olive Vivian (Whittle) Logue.

Errol lived in Glendale for a short time, before moving to his parent’s hometown of Bentley Kan., where he spent his childhood. He enjoyed holidays, especially Christmas as his mother made many time-honored tasty desserts. Their family upbringing reflected WWII heritage, as the family lived simply. Other family traditions included doing a family bible study and prayer each day, going to drive-in movies and swimming in the Arkansas river.

Errol began his education at Bentley Elementary School. Although Errol struggled in school, his parents did not tolerate not having good grades and his mother helped him through fifth grade. Errol attended Allison Junior High and then Wichita West High School where he pursued his dream of playing sports. His junior year he decided to become a cross-country manager to earn a letter. His junior year in track, he worked hard and take track seriously as he qualified for state. When college rolled around, Bob Moore coach of Friends University offered him a books scholarship. While at Friends, he met the love of his life, Claudia Wright. Errol and Claudia were married in 1965. They moved to Greenleaf Idaho where he began teaching social studies and coach. In 1969 they moved to Lansing Kan., where he began continued teaching and coaching at Lansing High School. Here he was a three-time state champion cross country and track coach as a Lion for 40 years. Errol accomplishments were being honored by the Kansas High School Activities Association as a member of their 2014 Hall of Fame class and in 2015 he was inducted into the Kansas Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2016 Friends University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Errol is survived by his wife, Claudia; sons, Andrew M. (Gina) Logue of W Des Moines Iowa and Matthew A. Christie) Logue of Erie Kan.; his sister, Paulette (Mark) Schlegel of Kingman Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Errol was preceded in death by his parents, a son Timothy S. Logue in January 1970.

A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Lance Coffman, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lansing.
