Betty Jean Martin

Betty Jeanne Martin, 72, of Topeka, died, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at St. John Hospital. She was born Feb. 18, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Irwin Benefiel and Joy (Brown) Stanley.

On June 5, 1971, Betty married Tom Martin in Garnett, Kan. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her father, Irwin Benefiel; her mother, Joy Stanley; her step-father, Glenn Stanley; and a sister Joyce Hastert, of Garnett, Kan.

Betty is survived by two sons, Jeff and Christa (Willcott) Martin of Lansing, Kan., and Pat and Amy (Godsey) Martin of Garden Ridge, Texas; five grandchildren, Zach, Nate and Lizzie Martin of Lansing, Kan., and McKenna and Cooper Martin of Garden Ridge, Texas; and a sister, Gayle Powell of Seattle, Wash.

Betty enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, crocheting, trying her luck at slot machines and her many friends who reside at Twin Oaks Independent Living.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Betty Martin Breathe Easy Memorial Fund.
