John Mlynarski

John J. Mlynarski, 89, of Leavenworth, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away, Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was born on April 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of immigrant parents Francisezek and Jozefa (Brzustowski) Mlynarski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and three brothers.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie (Jurek) Mlynarski; two daughters, Martha (John) Minniti of Trumbull, Conn. and Joan (Randy) Ponder, of Leavenworth; four grandchildren, Phillip J. Ponder of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nicholas J. Minniti of Columbus, Ohio, Alexis M. Minniti of Fair Lawn, N.J. and 2nd Lt Gregory W. Ponder currently of Leavenworth, Kan.

John was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, participated in the liberation of the Philippines and was part of the Occupation Army in Japan. After the war, he met his wife and worked for National Cash Register Co. John later joined the Jurek Funeral Home in Brooklyn as a funeral director.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin 11 a.m. Thursday, May, 29, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
