Roger D. Moore

Roger Dean Moore, 67, of Leavenworth, passed away, Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Providence Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 10, 1947, in Spiro, Okla., the son of Robert and Jeanette (Knight) Moore.

Roger attended elementary, junior and senior high school in the Kansas City, Mo. Public school system. He graduated in June of 1965 from Manual High School.

On June 4, 1966, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia J. Haynes. She survives at the home. He is also survived by two children, Rochelle D. Moore of St. Louis, Mo. And Roger D. (Tarryne) Moore II of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Te’Vieon Moore and Rasaan Moore; a brother, Larry (Delores) Moore; two uncles, Willis (Delores) Knight and Richard Roberts; he also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and his lifelong best friend, Fred Gillyard.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Robert Anthony Moore.

He worked for the city and Hallmark before enlisting in the United States Army in March of 1966. After 26 years of active duty service Roger retired in December of 1992. He continued to work various jobs after his retirement from the Army including working at the AAFES Fort Leavenworth where he retired in 2010.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
