John Francis Moran Jr.

Ret. U.S. Army Col. John Francis Moran Jr., 86, of Leavenworth, died, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. He was born May 10, 1932, in New York, N.Y., the son of John and Catherine (Mallroy) Moran Sr.

John served 32 years in the U.S. Army. In 1966, he was assigned to Vietnam as commander of an assault helicopter company. After returning to Ft. Leavenworth John was designated the Assistant Deputy Commandant of the Command and General Staff College.

On Aug. 8, 1969, John married Carole Arnold in Arlington, Va. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Christine Moran of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, John (Christin) Moran III of Platte City, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Collin Kartanos, Brayden Moran and Grace Moran.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Robert Moran, who died serving in the Vietnam war.

He enjoyed spending summers at the beach at his summer home in Cape Cod, Mass.

A graveside service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Arrangements in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
