Donald L. Otting

Donald L. Otting, known to friends as “Bones” of Lansing, Kan., died Friday, March 25, 2011, at home with his family.

He was born Jan.19, 1930, in Belleville, Ill and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio with parents Louis and Mary Otting.

Donald joined the Army at age 17, served in Korea and Vietnam receiving three Bronze Stars and various other medals. He retired as Sgt Major in 1977.

He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and The Legion of Mary in Lansing.

Donald married Maria Resch on April 4, 1952, in Salzburg, Austria.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary and Bill Biondi, of New York, and Maria and Dave Morning of Texas; two sons, Henry and Faye Otting of Leavenworth and Donald Jr. and Sandy Otting of Platte City; and a daughter in law, Therena Otting.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and son Louie Otting.

He was a proud grandfather of 17 and great grandpa of 29, a comedian at heart, he will be missed forever.

Visitation was Monday March 28, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home in Leavenworth. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 at St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial with full Military Honors was at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery.
