Stephen Payeur

Stephen Victor Payeur, 49, of Leavenworth, died, Friday, June 15, 2018, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1968, in Winchester, Kan., the son of Bernard Clovis Payeur and Mary Lucille Steed.

On Aug. 2, 1991, Stephen married Lori Ann Lee, at St. Joseph of the Valley in Easton. Kan/ She survives at the home. He is also survived by his son, Ethan Payeur; and a daughter, Emily (Clint) Corpstein.

Stephen was preceded in death by his mother and father; and his step-mom, Joanne Payeur.

Stephen worked at Great Western Manufacturing for many years.

He loved to do wood work and build fence. Stephen was a perfectionist and he drove his family crazy by taking out hedge posts that weren’t straight enough. He also loved to travel and was able to visit the 48 continental states. In 1991 he started his farm and by 1996 he called it the “S.L.E.E.P. Farm” to reflect the people he loved most and that helped build it.

After Stephen was diagnosed, there are three things he wanted to do; See his son, Ethan, graduate from KU; to see his daughter get married, although he was unable to make the ceremony, he had the honor of giving his blessing to Clint, when Clint asked for Emily’s hand in marriage; and to move into the house he built for Lori.

He prayed every night for peace, love and joy not for himself but for his family. He was an honest and hardworking man.

Visitation beginning with the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
