Richard L. “Catfish” Powell

Richard L. “Catfish” Powell, 76, of Leavenworth, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at Providence Medical Center. He was born Aug. 25, 1940, in Denison Texas, the son of Paul and Mildred (Weinmann) Powell.

Catfish is survived by his children, Renee (Curtis) Kitchens of Durant, Okla., Rhonda (Clint) Bates of Durant, Okla., Matt Powell of Leavenworth and Tim Powell of Leavenworth; his grandchildren, Damon Powell, Brittany Jackson, Tasha Huddleston, Janey Powell, Tanner Powell and Taya Brown; his sisters, Linda Powell and Mary Ann Powell; brothers, Billy Powell and Ray Powell; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Catfish started Powell Roofing in 1958 and actively worked to make it a business devoted to quality work and fairness. He loved to fish and garden He took pride in growing vegetables and sharing his harvest with his friends and family. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a friend to many and enjoyed making people smile.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorial are suggested to the American Heart Association.
