Robert LeVerne “Shorty” Rogers, 85, of Leavenworth, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 21, 2011.

He was born April 17, 1926, in McLouth, Kan., the son of DeLafayette and Nancy Mary (Ulhrich) Rogers

On Jan. 15, 1947, he married Frances Ross in Leavenworth. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Sharon and husband Steven Griffin of Cotton Wood Falls, Kan. and Rick and wife Colleen Rogers of Lansing; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Domann; and a large extended family.

Shorty worked for Decoursey Creamery for 38 years as a door to door milk man. He later delivered ice cream to local stores and the company became All Star Dairy. After retirement from the dairy business he worked for the Leavenworth Public School system for 10 years as a grounds keeper.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Eagles and on October 27 he would have been a Mason for 60 years.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels.
