Scott Sanford Jr

Scott Dennis Sanford Jr., 62, of Leavenworth, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at home, surrounded by family after a two and a half year battle with lung cancer.

He was born July 29, 1952, in Kenbridge, Va., to Scott and Frances (Wilson) Sanford, Sr. He attended Vailsburg High School in New Jersey where he was an exceptional runner in track. After graduating he joined the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged he became employed at Hallmark Cards for over 30 years. After retirement he worked part-time at Saint Mary College for the Sisters.

Scott enjoyed fishing, gardening, barbecuing and spending time with his grandson. He was also a die-hard NFL Raiders fan.

Scott is survived by Cheryl Sanford of Leavenworth; two daughters, Whitney Sanford and Brittany Sanford of Leavenworth; one grandson, Eian Gant-Sanford of Leavenworth; his two brothers, Anderson E. Lee (Jean) of New Jersey and William Lee (Gladys) of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, JoAnn Fridy of New Jersey; one uncle, Roosevelt Wilson of Carlisle, Pa.; six nieces; six great-nieces; 10 nephews; five great-nephews; one mother in-law, Dorothy Brundy of Leavenworth; three brothers in-law, Michael Brundy (NaOra Horton) of Mansfield, Texas, Sgt Maj. U.S. Army (Ret) Joseph (Roselind) W. Brundy III of Chester, Va. and Donald (Pat) Hatcher of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters in-law, Joan (Lloyd) Coubarous of Arlington, Texas, Rebecca Brundy-Young of Tacoma, Wash., Michele McRoy of Leavenworth and Pat (Lindley) Brooks of Centennial, Colo.; and a host of cousins and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Lilly May Smith.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
