Richard Charles Sharp “Rick” 58, lost his battle to cancer on Sunday July 8, 2012. He passed peacefully following his wish to spend his last days with his children and grandchildren. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Rick was born on Feb. 12, 1954, the only child of John J. and Marrietta (Hurst) Boley. He was raised in Lansing Kan. and lived most of his life in Leavenworth.

Rick served in the U.S. Army, worked as a roofer for many years and most recently prior to his diagnosis had been employed by Miles Excavating and JB Excavating in Basehor. He can best be described as a fun and free spirit that enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandmother, Mary I. Reynolds; and uncle, Robert O. Reynolds.

Rick is survived by his children, Christina Joanne Sharp 36, Josua Lucas Sharp "Luke” 22, Tina Marie Sharp 21, Zachary “Dylan” Sharp 20; his grandchildren, Preston Osborne Sharp 19, Dalton James Bailey 15, Austin Tyler Bailey 12, Dashay Nicole Flores 22 months; Godson, Ralph N. Byrd Jr. wife, Andrea and grandchildren; his aunts and uncles, Russell and Joyce Lyons, Mike and Micky McGhee and Margurite Varner-Egli; and many friends.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lansing. Arrangements by R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to the family for a cemetery marker.
