Laura E. Stevenson

Laura Elaine Alexander Stevenson, 88, of Leavenworth, took flight to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 20, 2015, having lived a full and blessed life. She was born on March 18, 1927, in Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Amos E. and Bertha (Townsend) Alexander.

Laura was blessed with two siblings, Romaine Branch Humbert and Amos E. Alexander, whose journey preceded hers.

She was a product of the Leavenworth Education System. She had various careers, and retired as Sgt. Stevenson from the Kansas State Department of Corrections after working there for 21 years. She was one of the founding members of the social club Les Noveletts, belonged to the Order of Eastern Stars, ABWA (Coronado Chapter) and a faithful member of Independent Baptist Church for over 68 years.

Laura united in marriage with Mr. Albert W. Stevenson and from this union, four children were born, Vicki, Lois “Jinaki” , Debra and Stevie.

She was preceded in life’s journey by Stevie, Jinaki, Debra, Albert, and a grandson, Anthony W. Clark.

Laura leaves to carry on her legacy a daughter, Vicki (Don) Clark Broaden of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Charlann Hicks, Nikita Taylor, Dawn Clark, Cynthia Giles, Kianga Modupe, Lynda Ovando and Jocco Biley; great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; two nieces, Judy Johnson and Audrey (John) Alexander; two nephews, Amos Alexander and Andy Alexander from Bay Area, Calif.; two very close cousins, Cornelia Brown and family and Enita Alexander and family.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Independent Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Arrangements in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
