U.S. Army (Ret) CSM Donald P. Stockton

CSM Donald P. Stockton, 63, of Stanberry, Mo., passed away, Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House. He was born Nov. 19, 1949, on a farmstead near Stanberry, Mo., the son of Marion and Marjorie (Giffin) Stockton.

Don was a 1967 graduate of Stanberry High School and entered the United States Army in 1968.

CSM Donald P. Stockton served 32 years in the United States Army including two combat tours in Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and numerous training missions. CSM Donald P. Stockton was Brigade CSM for the United States Military Training Mission Saudi Arabia, and Brigade CSM for 1st Brigade 1st Armored Division, Germany, as well as Battalion CSM for 1st Infantry Division Desert Storm Desert Shield, Ft. Riley, Kansas.

He retired April 14, 2000, as Fort Leavenworth Garrison CSM. Following Army retirement, Don continued to support the mission of the Armed Forces by working as a military analyst at The National Simulation Center, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.

His military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, The Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with V device, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Metal (9 awards) and the Order of Saint George Medallion (both bronze and silver recipient).

CSM Donald P. Stockton is also the Honorary Sergeant Major for the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

He is survived by his former spouse, Linda Stockton; his daughters, SSG Tina Spencer, Kaneohe, HI., SSG Crystal Sellers, Washington, D.C., and Ashley Stockton, Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, KyAra Meadows, Shayla and Marcalin Spencer; siblings, Anita Bridges, Aldrich, Mo., Nancy (Jerry) Stoll, Stanberry, Mo., Mary (Alvis) Poe, St. Louis, Mo., Margaret (Jim) Grace, Bolckow, Mo., Richard (Dede) Stockton, Aurora, Colo., Galen (Marjorie) Stockton, Lawton, Okla.; a sister-in-law Cindy (Dale) Stockton, St. Joseph, Mo.; a Brother-in-law, Bill (Geraldine) Campbell; and numerous other family and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; a Step-Mother, Myrtle (Cogdill) Stockton;a brother, Dale Stockton; a Step-Brother, Rev. Francis Cogdill; a Step-sister, Geraldine (Bill) Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Charles (Anita) Bridges.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Oct. 24 and 25, 2013, at the Fort Leavenworth Memorial Chapel, 626 Scott Ave, Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Pioneer Chapel, 500 Pope Ave, Fort Leavenworth, KS.
