Claudia Rea Stovall

Claudia Rea Stovall, 77, of Leavenworth, passed away in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday, June 4, 2011.

She was born the daughter of Roy and Ethel Lee Booker in Fairfax, Ala., on Jan. 12, 1934. She married Emmett E. Stovall Sr. on Jan. 7, 1950, in Tupelo, Miss.

Claudia retired from the Fort Leavenworth Lodging Operations Branch after 30 years of service. She received numerous awards for her outstanding work performance including Employee of the Year on several occasions. She was a dedicated worker who was committed to serving the military service men and women who were stationed at the Army Base.

Claudia’s warm hospitality and caring ways was always there for those in their time of need. She was there to listen, mentor, and provide guidance to others when needed. She always welcomed people with open arms into her home and into her heart. Her home became a place of love and comfort for those to live in during their trying times.

She is survived by her sons, Emmett E. Stovall Jr. and wife Kathie, Lawrence, Kan., and Al David Stovall and wife Lisa, Emporia, Kan., daughters, Danna Fay Taylor and husband Ron, Kansas City, Kan., Sharlene Rochester and husband Richard, Garland, Texas, Carol Yvette Stovall, Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Yvonne Staten, Shreveport, La., Gracie Ann Stovall, Pensacola, Fla. and Peggy Lee Malone and husband Garrett Sr., Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law Lori Houston; brother, Al Davis Booker and wife Martha, Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Betty Smith and husband Claude, Leavenworth, Sarah Ann Dunn and husband Willie, Lanett, Ala.; brother- in-law, Tommie Lee Madden and wife Teena, Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stovall, Decatur, Ala; 32 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Roy and Ethel Lee Booker; sisters, Carrie Booker, Christine Jones and Catherine Dunn; husband, Emmett E. Stovall Sr.; and sons, Daniel Stovall, Grayson Stovall, Victor Stovall, and John Stovall.

Claudia was lovely inside and out, and will truly be missed. Her love will always stay in our hearts.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Independent Baptist Church, 601 Pottawatomie Street, Leavenworth, KS. Burial will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
