Dixie Walkenbach

Dixie L. Walkenbach, 78, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Bonner Springs Nursing Home. She was born May 20, 1937, in Parkville, Mo., the daughter of Jesse and Gertrude (Montgomery) Porter.

On Aug. 29, 1955, she married her soul mate, Donald F. Walkenbach. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Patton and her brothers, Kenneth Porter and Montgomery Porter.

Dixie is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Rodney) Day of Leavenworth and Donna (James) Patroske of Leavenworth; her grandchildren, Chase Day of Franklin, Tenn. and Johnaton Patroske of Fulton, Mo.; her brother, Woodson (Ann) Porter; her sister-in-law, Helen (Raymond) Boyd; her brother-in-law, Fritzie (Billie) Walkenbach; and several nieces and nephews.

Dixie loved her family. She also loved birds, watching the sun rise, playing the slots at the casino, antiquing and watching the Royals and KU basketball. She worked at several business to include, Hallmark Cards and the Veterans Administration from where she retired in 1999.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 after the visitation at the church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Church.
