Florence W. Williford

Florence C. Williford, 93, a lifelong resident of Leavenworth, Kan., died, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Nov. 2, 1923, to Frank and Anna (Biczak) Jarowitz in Leavenworth, and was a faithful Catholic her entire life.

She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1941. She worked at Fort Leavenworth prior to enlisting in the Women’s Army Air Corps in 1944 and served honorably until the end of WWII in 1945. While in service to our Nation, she met and married James R. Williford, SSG, U.S. Army Air Corps, on June 9, 1945, in Dalhart, Texas. She is survived by five sons, Robert, Gary, David, John and Ronald; a sister, Rose May (James); ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a special cousin, Carol Dykes; and nine loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Virginia Inkman; two brothers, Raymond and Frank Jarowitz, Jr;. and her son, Michael.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military honors at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Leavenworth Council on Aging or Catholic Charities.
