James A. Zielinski

James A. Zielinski, “Grinnin Jimmy,” 59, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his residence.

Jimmy was a life-long resident of Leavenworth. He was born May 29, 1955, in Leavenworth to Joseph S. and Jeanette (Dodd) Zielinski. Jimmy retired after 29 years of service from the Leavenworth Water Department. He worked his way up the ladder from meter reader to an Assistant Plant Operator at Water Plant #1.

Over the years, Jimmy enjoyed his hobbies of the many he had. He went from racing motor-cross dirt bikes, to remote control vehicles, to pony stock cars at Lakeside Speedway. He loved being a rebel and going fast. Later in life Jimmy enjoyed the leisure life of riding his motorcycle through town, his time out on the lake water, as well as his time hitting the green out on the golf course. He was a member of Knights of Columbus as well as The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, #55.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lashaun (Steve) Oliver Jr., of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and Danielle (Glen) Baker of Easton, Kan.; his grandchildren, Kali and Ashlynn Boydston, Will Oliver, Tristen and Wyatt Baker; his mother, Jeanette Zielinski; brother, John Paul (Debbie Kerr) Zielinski; sisters, Joette (John) McKenzie, Janice (Ron) Thompson and Judy (Rob) Robinson; Lynn Zielinski spouse of the late, Joseph S. Zielinski II; Vickie Bacon Montgomery (mother of Lashaun and Danielle); and by many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death of his father, Joseph S. Zielinski and his brother Joseph S. Zielinski, II.

Jimmy will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his father and oldest brother. On behalf of the family we would like to thank the Honorary Pallbearers and Golfing Buddies: Jim Alspaugh, Mike Fitzgerald, Dennis Hund, Mike Malec, Steve Malec, Gary Mattingly, Dave Wallsmith. Jimmy whether he is known as son, brother, daddy, papa Jimmy, Grinnin Jimmy, or Cupcake, he will be greatly missed by all. He has forever imprinted on our hearts.

A memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
